Stand In The Gap With Us And Blessed Michael J. McGivney 8/13/2024. Official Feast Day in the Catholic Church of Blessed Father Michael McGivney, patron and found of the Knights of Columbus. The feast is celebrated annual on August 13th across the universal Catholic Church.
The eldest son of an immigrant Irish family in Connecticut, young Michael left school at 13 to work in a brass factory making spoons. At 16 he began studies for the priesthood in Quebec, but was obliged to leave to help support the family when his father died. Michael completed his education in Baltimore, Maryland, and was ordained for the diocese of Hartford in 1877.
For good reason: Michael, whose family lives in Dickson, Tennessee, is the boy whose miraculous healing in his mother's womb from a life-threatening condition led Pope Francis to beatify Father Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, placing him one step from sainthood.
The founder of the Knights of Columbus, Father Michael J. McGivney was a central figure in the growth of Catholicism in America, and he remains a model today. His example of charity, evangelization and empowerment of the laity continues to bear fruit and guide Knights of Columbus around the world.

Dead Reckoning Erased by Baptism and Confirmation. "If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory" (Colossians 3:1-4). We instruct our RCIA Candidates and Catechumens the importance of our faith being a journey.
2 Corinthians 3:18 says, "All of us, gazing with unveiled face on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit." Our hope is in the Lord, Jesus gave us His Church as our guide and interpreter of his word. Romans 15:4 states, "For whatever was written previously was written for our instruction, that by endurance and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Living Our Baptism, The Baptism of the Lord. This scene in Matthew is also important because we see a glimpse of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We will again see this image at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8). After the Resurrection, Jesus will send the Catholic Church to go to all the nations to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).
This is important for all of God’s people because we have the means to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit through our own Baptism (Acts 2:38) and receive the power of the Holy Spirit through the “laying of hands” (Hebrews 6:2).
St. Paul instructs St. Timothy, “Do not lay hands too readily on anyone, and do not share in another’s sin. Keep yourself pure” (1 Timothy 5:22).
Why do we see this caution from St. Paul? St. Paul’s letter to the Colossians is key!

Stand In The Gap With Us And Saint Clare of Assisi 8/11/2024:
Like St. Francis, Clare was known for her many miracles. Among her most famous feats is using a consecrated Host to ward off invaders. She displayed the Sacrament in a monstrance at the convent gates, and prayed before it; the attackers left. She was full of the spirit of peace, as well as of fortitude. She was by no means a quarrelsome person, but she was always ready to defend what was good. She was called upon to defend what was good many times in her life, and this required great fortitude.
On Palm Sunday in 1212, she ran away from home and joined the small band of men who were gathering around St. Francis. They welcomed her at the door to their chapel, where St. Francis gave her a rough tunic made of sackcloth and cut off her hair as a sign of renunciation of the world.
The form of life of the Order of the Poor Sisters that Blessed Francis established is this: to observe the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, by living in obedience, without anything of one's own, and in chastity.
One of the more sugary movies made about Francis of Assisi pictures Clare as a golden-haired beauty floating through sun-drenched fields,

Stand In The Gap With Us And Saint Lawrence 8/10/2024. The esteem in which the Church holds Lawrence is seen in the fact that today’s celebration ranks as a feast. We know very little about his life. He is one of those whose martyrdom made a deep and lasting impression on the early Church. Celebration of his feast day spread rapidly.
He was a Roman deacon under Pope Saint Sixtus II. Four days after this pope was put to death, Lawrence and four clerics suffered martyrdom, probably during the persecution of the Emperor Valerian.
Legendary details of Lawrence’s death were known to Damasus, Prudentius, Ambrose, and Augustine. The church built over his tomb became one of the seven principal churches in Rome and a favorite place for Roman pilgrimages.
A well-known legend has persisted from earliest times. As deacon in Rome, Lawrence was charged with the responsibility for the material goods of the Church, and the distribution of alms to the poor. When Lawrence knew he would be arrested like the pope, he sought out the poor, widows, and orphans of Rome and gave them all the money he had on hand, selling even the sacred vessels of the altar to increase the sum.

Be Catholic for the Grace of it: While stationed at Fort Hood Texas, I was just beginning to appear on the Internet defending the Catholic Faith.
The more I was involved on YouTube, the more I was challenged by anti-Catholic groups who would come on my Facebook page leaving what I called bird droppings.
About that time, I was being challenged by an individual who began attacking the Catholic position on Luke 1:28, “And he came to her and said, ‘Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” This Gentleman obviously had been misinformed about what the Angel Gabriel had said to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In part, he stated to me, “The dogma of the Immaculate Conception has to be the worst example of the Catholic Church engaging in “whole cloth” “interpretation” of Scripture.“ Interestingly, I couldn't help but recognize how he was really guilty of his own complaint?
How many denominations had been formed based on their own “whole cloth” interpretation of Scripture. I named off Sola Scriptura, a doctrine developed by Martin Luther as one of the main doctrines held against the Catholic position of Scripture as an example.

Is Jesus And Mary Invited into your home, Marriage,
We should all have a "Cana" experience in our homes. How blessed would be our homes if Jesus and Mary were welcome there! Marriage is one of the seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church. It is really the first Covenant between Adam and Eve(Covenant of marriage). Genesis 2:23-24 states, “the man said: ‘This one at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; This one shall be called woman, for out of her man this one has been taken’. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body”.
In the Old Testament, a Covenant is an exchange of persons in contrast to a contract which is an exchange of things.
Marriage fits this perfectly as it mirrors the Covenant God makes with his people.
It is interesting that God referred to Israel’s unfaithfulness to Him as adultery when they chose to follow false gods.
The Israelites were allowed to marry anyone they pleased, “provided they marry into a clan of their ancestral tribe so that no heritage of the Israelites will pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelites will retain their own ancestral heritage”(Numbers 36:6-7).

Stand In The Gap With Us And Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross 8/9/2024. Teresa Benedicta was born Edith Stein. She was born into a German Jewish family, bur she stopped believing in God when she was fourteen years old. Her conversion to Catholicism began when she read the autobiography of St. Teresa of Avila.
A brilliant philosopher who stopped believing in God when she was 14, Edith Stein was so captivated by reading the autobiography of Teresa of Avila that she began a spiritual journey that led to her baptism in 1922.
For her, the Cross was a means of entering deeply into the mystery of suffering, on behalf of and with her people. She was arrested in August 1942 and was ultimately killed at Auschwitz. She is commemorated as a martyr. Image courtesy of Cologne Carmel.
Twelve years later she imitated Saint Teresa by becoming a Carmelite, taking the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.
Born into a prominent Jewish family in Breslau, Germany—now Wroclaw, Poland—Edith abandoned Judaism in her teens. As a student at the University of Göttingen, she became fascinated by phenomenology–an approach to philosophy. Excelling as a protégé of Edmund Husserl, one of the leading phenomenologists,
